Home vs House

To me a home is very different from a house. A house is a structure that is built to be a place where somebody lives. A house has a roof, walls, furniture, a bed, chairs, a table, a floor, windows, a door, provides a place to live, puts a roof over your head and gives you physical security. However, a home is just as important in a very different way. A home might not be comfortable or big or even very safe but a home is family, love, friends. It keeps memories. It gives you mental security. It’s a feeling. It’s a place where you can be you, just you and that’s fine. It’s comfort, the sound of laughter as everyone sits down to eat dinner and so much more. A house could never provide any of that. A home is truly a wonderful, beautiful thing, impossible to construct with bricks, cement, glass, steel, and concrete. Yet a home can still be constructed. Hope constructs it. And love and memories and family… Love, memories and family. If someone asked me to describe home using three words, those are the ones I would choose. A house could never be those. Don’t get me wrong, we all need a house. But we all need a home as well and that is a fact.
