Home: An Essay

When I come home after a long day, the first thing I do is enter the entryway to hang my coat on the hanging rack. I peer into the kitchen and manage to catch a whiff of appealing aroma - peppermint tea. I walk over to my mother to give her a kiss. She smells fresh, just like citrus. We talk for a moment about our day, then I re-route myself to the dining room. In the dining room I glance at the beautiful, varnished cabinet. It has a touch of gold around the edges. The memories of holiday suppers come flooding back, the feasts with family I’ll never forget. I love the flowery tablecloth that’s draped over the matching, varnished table. As I walk into the living room, I see my baby sister playing with her miniature toys. Around her its spacious and cozy, the fire ablaze. Looking at my sister I remember being her size, not a care in the world. Oh, I miss the younger me! As tired as I am, I creep into the bathroom to refresh my emotions. I could have a shower or brush my teeth. The hot shower is very relaxing. I really like the bathroom. Finally, there is my bedroom. My bedroom is plastered with photos of friends and family. My bedroom is where I rest my head and let my thoughts soar. My thoughts help me drift away into beautiful dreams. All my worries vanish in a haze of admirable emotions. ‘Home’ is being with family and friends. Home makes me feel warm and cozy. I adore being in the warm embrace of my family and friends. I have so many great memories in my home. Home could be anything, but to me it’s being with loved ones.
