Home is Where the Heart Is
Walls: A house’s walls are filled with wood, but a home’s walls are filled with love, caring and kindness. The walls of a house are just plain and white, but a home’s walls are painted and have your photos that hold all your memories.
Floors: The floors of a house might be shiny, but the floors of a home have been loved, touched and played on. The floors of a house might be freshly painted, but the floors of a home are marked with all the footsteps of your life.
Rooms: The rooms of a house are just plain, quiet and empty, but the rooms in a home are filled with laughter, shouting and dreams of the future. The rooms of the house may have fresh paint and new carpet, but the rooms of a home are filled with life and personality created by posters, pillows, medals and trophies, beds, dressers, and favorite toys.
Roof: The roof of a house is made from shingles and tar, but the roof of a home is meant to keep you safe, warm and snug. A house’s roof will protect you from the elements, but the roof of a home protects a family while they snuggle closer safe from the storm.
Backyard: A house's backyard is filled with dirt, but a home's backyard is filled with beautiful green grass, a vegetable garden to nourish and colorful flowers. A house’s backyard might have freshly laid sod, but in a home’s backyard you play bocce and have water balloon fights.
Family and Pets : In a house there are no pets or people, but in a home it is filled with people and life. People full of love, sadness, and joy, they share the very best and worst moments in their home. In a house it’s as quiet as a mouse, but in a home you hear joy, laughter and happiness.
I hope that every house can be made into a home. Thank you Habitat for Humanity for making that a possibility.
