Memories
My home is more than a shelter for my family, it's a place to make memories. I always feel my pets' fuzzy, warm, fur and it helps me calm down, smell my parent’s delicious cooking in the kitchen and finally see my beautiful backyard.
First, let's talk about my pets' fuzzy warm fur and how it calms me down. Whenever I get cold or if I am cold their fur warms me up. It feels like you are hugging the fuzziest thing ever. When I’m sad, mad or scared, they can help me feel safe or calm me down. It’s easier to have pets when you have a home for them to explore and feel safe. That is how they calm me down and how their fur is the warmest and fuzziest.
Second, let's talk about my mom and dads delicious cooking. Every single night my parents make delicious food for dinner and sometimes new types of food. My favourite type of food is chicken pot pie. But we don’t go out to restaurants a lot because I have celiac disease. I am not gluten friendly, I can’t eat a crumb of gluten. It was found out when I was 18 months old. Most of the delicious food I eat is made from scratch and fresh. That is why my mom and dads cooking is delicious.
Finally, let's talk about my beautiful backyard. I got a beautiful salt water pool with a water slide. I got the pool 4 years ago and 2 years later my dad built a pergola ( a pergola is a structure that you lounge under on outdoor chairs and couches/sofas). Last year for my mom’s birthday my dad built the back of the pergola so there is shade over and behind you. Also, we have a slackline/ninja line and a tree house. We got the treehouse 8 years ago and it has a sandbox under it. My dad, my grampy and my dad’s friends built the treehouse. Also, we got the slackline 3 years ago and only my dad built it and 2 garden beds for the summer. I plant carrots, snap peas, peppers, strawberries, beans and tomatoes.
We have a sauna and in November 2024, sadly the sauna caught on fire. My dog Carl woke my mom up and my mom shushed him, but he kept going. My mom saw the fire and called 911. Thankfully nothing was damaged except the sauna. So insurance is covering it, but we won't have a sauna for a couple months. That is why I have a beautiful backyard.
So that is why home isn’t just a shelter, you should try and make memories in every home in Canada. Thank you Habitat for Humanity for the best homes ever in Canada so that other kids can have pets for cuddles, a kitchen for cooking special foods and a backyard to enjoy and play in. I am so grateful for my parents and to Habitat for Humanity and what they do.
