THE MEANING OF HOME

Home to me feels like a place where I am safe and warm. Every time I am with my family and I am sad about what happened at school, my mom will always say, “You can do it, even if someone says bad words to you. You can not give up!” and that made me feel safe. In my old country, Uganda, the whole place did not feel safe to me. The country is filled with dangerous animals and people. A lot of kids went missing and my mom was scared that something bad was going to happen to me.I was born and raised there until I was 8 years old but it did not feel like home to me. About 1 year ago, I moved to Canada with my mom. Canada has become a place where I feel safe because I have kind friends. In Canada, I can have healthy food, cleaner air and water. Canada is the place where I felt loved, safe, and warm. Even though I was born in Uganda, Canada is still my safe home forever and I will never forget this.
