My happy place!

My home, otherwise known as my sanctuary, means a lot to me. It’s where I can get away from the pressure of everything and escape to my happy place. I’m not talking about the appearance of my house that makes me feel happy and safe, it’s what's inside my house. That’s my true happy place… When I was little, I lived in Beijing, China. I didn’t stand out in a crowd. When we moved to Canada, I became the minority of people in Canada. That’s why I had to rely on my family and home more because our relatives didn’t live near us. Then slowly my new home started to grow on me. I’m very grateful. In my kitchen we have every meal together and when it’s cold outside there’s nothing I enjoy more than my mom’s warm meatball soup over a hotpot that my dad makes. You can put all sorts of food in a hotpot like tofu, meat strips, vegetables and so much more! Every cold evening when I get home I crave the smell of my parent’s cooking. I breathe in the smell. “Yum!” When it’s Chinese New Year and I can smell the sweet smell of spring coming and my mom baking traditional Chinese desserts and food, we hang paper dragons and good luck symbols around the house to keep evil spirits away while my dad fusses with me to clean my room. My mom vacuums the whole house and I count the minutes until my friends come. “Ding dong!” they come, then we feast and the whole house is filled with joy and laughter. Whether you live in your own home or in a habitat that shelters and energizes you, we can all grow into better, happier and sparkling adults! Thank you Habitat for Humanity!
