What Home Means to Me
If one were to ask Google what the definition of home is, it would state: “The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family, or household.” In the literal sense, Google is right. It could be a place where one resides, or a place where a family or group of people live. But to me, that’s not the true definition of this word. To me, the word home means many things such as protection, family, memories, laughter, and love. I feel very fortunate to have a home as amazing as mine. For me, there is a feeling that I get when I am home. A feeling that touches me in an indescribable way. When I walk through the door, this warmth waltzes around me. Not like the kind that you feel in a sauna, but the kind of warmth that you can feel in your heart. My home gives me senses of familiarity, security, comfort, and nostalgic memories that have taken place in this space over the past twelve years. From baking cookies, making crafts, receiving warm hugs and smiles, listening to music, learning how to cook, sharing stories at dinner, playing mini sticks, and gathering around the TV to cheer on my favourite teams, these are just some of the amazing memories that have taken place in my home. My home is not just four walls. It is a space where family comes first, memories are created, and where love always lives. As Dorothy famously said in The Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like home.”
And I couldn’t agree more.
