What Home Means

A home is not a building, but rather a place to house memories, joy, happiness and tears of all sorts. Sure it’s a strong structure to keep you sheltered but it holds much more complicated emotions as deep as the sea. These are what homes are made from, as opposed to nails and wood. When you sit by the fire, you'll feel the warmth reaching inside you, the pulsing laughter making your heart beat faster and your face flood with joy. You'll hear the comforting crackling of the beautiful red and orange fire. Walking through the kitchen the smell of freshly baked chocolate cookies drifting slowly through the air. The sound of the kettle boiling and the soft click of indication that it's finished. The feeling of the smooth warm wooden floor underneath your feet. From the living room comes music, laughter and the pounding on the ground of what could only be dancing. Going into a child's bedroom you see books, a cozy bed, and stuffed animals piled high. It feels safe, like a place someone could freely cry and be comforted by the warmth of the home. In the basement it's a different story, memories of family movies come to mind. Taking hours to decide what to watch, getting scared at night and forcing my mom to sleep with me in the spare bed downstairs, the little things that make life so much better. As you see, the structure does not matter, it could be any size but the feeling you get inside the home proves it is so much more than just a building. Joy, happiness, tears, laughter and so many other amazing emotions. This is what home means.
