What is Home?

“What is home?” I ask you. The answers may vary from a place to live, or a house with a kitchen and a bedroom. But to me, it’s very different. I was born here in Canada, but my parents’ lives were very different. They left their run-down homes in Vietnam to give me and my sister a better home and education here. When my parents first started here in Canada, they started at rock bottom. Now they have a pretty good house and an average life, but they are still struggling because of all the prices. Home is a place where the things you love are, whether it’s your family or your friends. Home is where the fun resides in the form of board games with my sister. It is also where my mom makes scrumptious traditional food. This peaceful time is when I play my video games while chatting to all of my kind friends, while smelling the delightful scent of Vietnamese food. My mom and dad traveled all the way to Canada to give me a fresh start because they knew how it felt to live in a war country. They didn’t want me to struggle as much as them. They worked so hard just for me to have a house. Home isn’t physical; It’s mental. Home isn’t just where my mattress lies or 4 walls and 4 rooms. Home is love. My parents worked as hard as they could to make me feel warm, loved, and safe. That is my home.
