Really a house?
Alberta is my house,I live in it… right?
Wait… that doesn't sound right.
My province has 3 corners but a house has to have 4.
My province wasn’t paid for so I could live in it.
How can I call it a house?
My brain is fumbling for words,
But I just can't seem to find the words for it.
I know it starts with a H,
And ends with an E.
Hinge?
Hedge?
I’m getting frustrated.
All I remember is that I got lost shopping at Home Depot!
Wait…
That's it!
Home!
Alberta is my home, not my house!
I’d consider home a sort of feeling,
You might hear people say “I feel home.”
Even though they’re not actually in their house.
But a home and a house are different.
Even in some places where people cannot afford houses,
But a home is free.
Home can be a big place, like our Earth,
But can also be small like a cabin.
It can be short like a grove of raspberries,
Or tall like the mountain range.
Home is somewhere you feel familiar,
Somewhere you feel safe.
Would you consider a place that you’ve gone a time or two home?
Or a place you spend your day the most in?
Home can be the time you talk with your precious family,
Play with your dog, read with your cat
And make memories you will never forget.
My home in Canada has a diversity of luxurious nature activities,
Ski down the mountain slopes in British Columbia and Alberta,
And feel the cold wind blow in your face.
Enjoy the beach at Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick,
And feel the cool ocean water stroke your feet.
Safe, familiar, trusting, loving and memorable
I call this home.
