When I got home
After a long, cold, damp and tiring day, I finally arrived at my house. The wind whistled in my ear as if taunting me for retreating into safety. I staggered onto the steps and heard the sound of the snow crunching under my feet. I opened the door and I was instantly hit with a blast of warm air as the comforting smell of dumplings wafted into my nose, welcoming me inside and fighting against the grasp of the stubborn winter air. I saw how happy my family was and instantly felt considerably better. Refilled with energy, I leapt down the stairs to say hello to my beloved chinchilla Rocky. When he saw me he immediately became excited and started jumping around because he was asking for treats. After he had a nut, I tickled him under his furry chin, which felt like soft clouds. After he was satisfied he fell straight into his chinchilla-sized hammock and started to fall asleep. Just in time I remembered that I was still hungry and slowly crept up the stairs careful not to disturb Rocky. When I got up everyone was already there devouring their delicious food. As I started to eat, I felt the warm fillings of the dumplings in my mouth. But just then, my excitement started to wear off while I started to drift into sleep. The weariness started to creep into me, and I realized for the first time that I was very lucky to have a family that cared for me even when I was really annoying. They still tried their best to provide me with food and a satisfactory shelter. I made a silent vow to myself that I will use this opportunity to make everyone one step closer to having the warm, caring home they deserve.
