Home and Heart

Home is what fills my heart. Home is where I build my favourite memories, make connections and where I learn and grow. It’s where I took my first steps, where I learned how to skate on my pond in the wintertime and where I fell off of my quad behind my barn. It's where I experience ups and downs. Home is like a bumpy road with twisting paths that I have to navigate. Sometimes home creates the best memories and sometimes the tough ones too. It is where I cherish relationships with my parents, friends, pets, family and people in my community. Home is what is familiar. It’s a collection of my experiences, traditions and where I seek comfort with those I love. Home is where I fall into a routine. It’s where I feel safe in the arms of my parents and the security of my home. Home is where I feel understood, cared for and it’s where I can be myself. Home is where I have my own personal possessions and my favourite keepsakes like my stuffed animals, my awards, my ribbons and my collection of horse figurines. Home is where I walk into the kitchen and smell a home cooked meal made with love by my mom. When I am in our forest behind my house, I feel peaceful and calm because the wildlife is just thriving with birds chirping, frogs croaking and deer playing. Home is where I explore my creek with my dad and find cool little treasures. I love it when my grandparents say, “I love you to the moon and back,” and I feel so adored. It’s where my grandma force feeds me her specialties like her soups, spaghetti and lamb. It’s where my grandpa takes me fishing and treasure hunting with our metal detector. It’s where my baby cousin rides tractors with me through the farms. Home is where my aunts and I, go on fun girl days. When I am at my house, I feel cozy and comfortable, when my dog cuddles me and sleeps beside me. It’s where we play fetch, tug-of-war, and where I feed her endless treats for being a good girl. This is my life and that is what home means to me.
