Home
J.J. picked up her phone and called her best friend Luna. J.J. said in a sad voice, "I'm moving....to the U.S.!"
"What???" Luna said.
"My mom got a job in New York. So we are moving"
Luna didn't say anything. She was so shocked she couldn't speak.
"I leave on the weekend," J.J. said in a whisper.
"I'm going to miss you so much."
"I'm going to miss you too and I'm going to miss the neighbourhood, the school, and my home. In New York, I'm not even going to live in a house. I have to live in a small apartment."
Luna started crying.
"I feel like I'm leaving everything behind."
"No, you're not", Luna said a lot more confidently than before. "It's going to be okay. I will be right beside you every step of the way. I promise."
"Okay", said J.J. more happily.
On the weekend, J.J. called Luna while she finished packing. Then J.J's mom walked in and said that the plane was going to leave in an hour and they had to drive to the airport. Luna said bye to J.J.
When J.J. and her mom landed in New York, they went straight to their new apartment. It was tiny. J.J. barely had a room. She didn't recognize any of the smells in her new apartment. Even the flooring was so different. At there old home there were ceramic tiles, but here it was wood. J.J. went to her mom and asked her if they would still have the same traditions. "Of course we will", said her mom. "And we will make new traditions as well."
"Okay", said J.J.
That night when J.J. went to bed, she realized that it didn't matter where she was. It mattered who she was with.
Home is home.
