The Meaning of Home

What is a home? My house is more than a home. Every home is different, some with religious backgrounds and traditions, with families that come in all shapes and sizes. When I reflect on my home, I think of how thankful I am to be in one. Home feels like eating delicious food that your mother or father cooks for you, it is sitting at the dining table gossiping about the day. It can be finishing the night watching a horror movie with one another. The most important thing about all these experiences is that you and the people you are comfortable with are all together under one roof. Memories have no limits when you are with the people you love and that is what makes a house, a home! A home is more than the bricks and concrete it is built with; it is a shelter that brings me happiness as soon as I walk through the door. With Christmas coming, my home is even brighter with lights found in every window. The smell of cookies swarms the air just like the magic that my elves bring around this time each year. I have always heard the phrase, "home is where the heart is" and believe I am truly starting to understand what it really means. Home does not need to be a place; it can be anywhere where love and happy memories are made. I realized how important home was when it seemed like my home was changing. During my mom's fight with breast cancer in the last year, I realized how much more the people mattered than the home we were in, especially when we had to come together to bring our home to the hospital. Home is not what you have, it is who you decide to share your time with, and where you make it. Hopefully, all people have the chance to experience a home at one point in their lives. A quote reads "A good heart makes for a good home" and I know that I have a great one.
