The Meaning of Home
Shelter is a place to keep you dry with four walls, three, two or even four poles to keep it up. But a home is a place with a roof, four walls, and a door. Home is a place to keep you warm and make you feel safe. It is a place to live with your family and loved ones. It is a place to make you feel secure.
In my home I can feel emotionally the love circulating around the rooms and happiness, warmth and joy.
In my home I can hear popcorn popping before we watch a family movie, the tv playing, people talking and chatting and laughter…the kettle screaming when it is ready and pots crashing in the kitchen.
Home is the sweet smell of buttered chicken, freshly made cookies, cake and pumpkin bread, ice cream, apple pie, burgers and salad.
I can feel my soft mattress, fluffy pillow, warm blanks, hard wooden table, my leather sketchbook, and my carpet.
Home is the taste of fresh fruit, hot chocolate, sleepy time tea, fried eggs, roasted dinners, cereal, and fish.
I can see my family gathered around the kitchen table, my brothers pokemon cards, paintings on the wall, dinner being cooked, and the big window in my living room.
Home is a building where you might live in a strata, an apartment, a sweet house or on your own property but no matter what you should be very grateful because there are many people in the world that do not have a home to keep safe and warm in. In conclusion a home is not a given, it is a luxury to some people.
