Homeless
What if you don’t have a home?
What if you don’t have a family?
To see, to look up to.
To love, just like my mom and my brother.
I live with them, and love both of them dearly.
Although
Somebody doesn’t have a family.
Somebody doesn’t have a home.
That somebody could be anybody.
Your friend, a celebrity, a stranger.
Think about how they feel.
Miserable, depressed, lonely?
They may also feel cold in the winters.
Burning in the hot summers.
Yet they’re called bums, failures, and hobos.
Even though that’s what they deal with everyday
Sometimes they’re seen as a nuisance.
Are they irritating? Tiresome? Troublesome?
Describe a homeless person.
Do these words come to mind?
Maybe they do, maybe they don’t.
But what does home mean to me?
I see it as survival, food, and warmth.
That’s why it’s necessary.
My senses also come into play.
My body feels warmth from my blankets.
My tongue feels the sweetness of an apple.
My eyes see the colourful colour of my bed.
The scent of the lovely pink lotion bottle.
