Home on the Ice

To me, home means a rink, but it is better when my ringette team is present and there with me. I feel safe and happy with my team. Anytime I hear the voice of my teammates, I feel cheerful and I have a smile on my face. The ice brings me joy and excitement. I’m always curious to see what’s going on in the arena. I LOVE the snacks from the canteens, the smell of the locker rooms, and the sound of skates hitting the ice. I go to school everyday wearing my team’s merchandise because having it there with me makes me feel that much closer to them. And don’t get me wrong, home isn’t perfect. The benches are always crowded, the falls aren’t very enjoyable, and when they’re out of popcorn, I feel disappointed. Home is where the good things always outweigh the bad things. In this case, the pros exceed the cons by quite a lot. When on the ice, my favorites things are when we’re skating laps and the breeze hits my face but it’s not too cold. All the fun names that my team and I come up with for our plays never fail to make me laugh. When you come onto the bench after a shift and your coaches proceed to say “great shift.” I can tell my teammates appreciate it when I cheer them on from the bench. It warms my heart when my teammates envelop me with hugs and high-fives after I score a goal. Days, months and years will fly by but I will always take a trip down memory lane and revisit the memories that my team and I had made. My friends and I always have a great time, and that’s why, for me, home means a rink.
