The Home By The Water
A small but perfect dwelling
hidden in the trees
Fuzzy sweater and wet socks
The warm summer air on my tanned arms
Pine trees and sandy beaches
Waves splashing the rocks
Jazz music and sugar maples
Screams of joy, amusement, happiness
Cold mornings and scorching nights
Rustling leaves from big tall trees
Clementine, sugar cookies and freezer chips
The twang of the zipline from the canopy of trees
A seemingly endless gravel road
The lake - crystal clear and beautiful
We say it belonged to pirates way back then
The warm feta, garlic and olive pizza like fire
in my mouth
Ghost stories told around a fire blazing warm
Dogs barking, water splashing, children playing
We are not just a place, a location, an empty house
We are a safe haven, our own community
A safe haven.
