Finding a Home

A home is a place where you feel safe, and a house can't make me feel embraced. A place that simply is made to shelter you. Nothing more, nothing less, and that's true. For me, I only have a house. My name is Izzy and my parents are always busy. My brother is always studying. When I ask him to hang out with me he says that he's always trying. My closest friend is named Amy. She's my only one for me. I always want to go to her home. I ask the same question: “Can I come to your home? I really want to come and roam.” “Usually you’d say “house”, but yes you can. Make sure to say hi to my dog, Mouse!” she’d say. But I knew it was a home for me. I needed a place where I'd feel free. So I went over, we played and had fun, when all of a sudden her parents came in with a pun. Her dad laughed, “Hey, little one! If you need anything let me know, otherwise have fun!” Then I realized what I wanted so much. It was to not be so alone. And for people to have a new tone. I said I need to go back to my house, and make it a home. Then Amy said, “Good luck,” as she went to open the door. I looked at the floor, said goodbye and then left. When I got back to my house, I saw my parents who got back early. They said, “Surprise! We got something for you!” They showed me a dog. “This is Charlie! We knew you were lonely, I think you’ll like him, probably.” And now like my house is a home. Loving, not lonely 💖. Thank you to Habitat for humanity for all you have done. I hope that new families can enjoy new things with their new home. And yes the story itself is just under 300 words. - Maya.
