What is my home to me?
Home is where my mom, dad, older sister, younger sister, and little brother live. No matter where we sleep as long as they are nearby. Home is a loud, bustling, busy place, but it is also a place that has moments of peace and solitude. Moments of peace in my home are me reading books in my bed knowing that even though it’s completely silent and I can’t hear them, my family is still with me.
Home is a comfy movie night, snuggled up between my family members. Home is a place where disagreements, fights, and shoves happen, but everyone is forgiven. Home is my mom being excited to decorate for a holiday or season and playing soccer or volleyball with dad. Home is playing games with my siblings, teaching my little brother to count, my little sister to add and subtract, or even my older sister teaching me. Home is lighting bright diyas and going out at night to watch colorful fireworks, hiding in a box, and coming out with a loud “BOOM!”.
Home is the familiar soothing aroma of mom cooking her famous curry while blasting her Tamil music or ramble on the phone with a friend of hers. Home is dad cooking the best egg sandwich in the world for breakfast while I make bread or help out with bacon. Home is me baking my usual chocolate cake pops or maybe trying to make something new.
You may think my home is your average family of 6, but I think my family is a wonderful home full of all of this! Thank you Habitat for Humanity for providing an opportunity for more people to have a chance to have a wonderful home to appreciate!
