The Land is our Home

What does home mean to you? Today I are writing about what home means to me and my friend. Home is where the Land is, a place where people eat, sleep and rest. Home however, means much more than that, home is a place where you should feel safe and loved. Home is a place where your loved ones are, like your parents or guardians. I'm happy when I'm at home. As Indigenous girls, Anishinaabkwezens, we know our home to be the Land. From the sky up high to the critters down below. From the stars to the waters to the mud between our toes. We are always home when we are on the Land. We love to spend time outside where we feel the warm sun on our face. Where we feel free to be ourselves. The Land is comforting just like a home is. The Land gives us warmth. Just like our beds do. The Land provides us with food and water. Just like a kitchen. The Land rains to clean the Earth. Just like our showers in a bathroom. It is a place where we can eat, rest, and be loved. The Land is our home.
