Home – Where I long to be
My home is more than a place where I sleep at night, it is a place where my family is held dear and tight. It’s a place where I can live carefree with the people I love and need.
My home is where my mother comforts me and helps me become who I’m meant to be. My father’s words of love and grace help me find my happy place.
My home is where pictures are placed gently on an empty space. Every memory made is a treasure I will keep in my heart forever.
My home is a place where my family sits and says grace. We eat together sharing our ups and downs throughout the day, laughing and loving in every way.
My home is a place where I can be who I want to be and express my faith, culture and family tree. It’s a place where I belong and am taught right from wrong.
My home is a place where my brothers and I run and play with a little fighting along the way. We create memories that we won’t ever regret, and we will store them in our hearts never to forget.
My home is where I cuddle on the couch on a chilly night and watch a movie that is just right. With my family by my side, I feel very happy inside.
My home is where I celebrate holidays with fun, where my mother and father cook up a feast for everyone.
My home is a place where I come back to every day after a long time away. At the door my family welcomes me, making it a happy place to be.
With all these feelings of home that is where I long to be. A place where I feel safe and can write my own story.
Thank you, Habitat for Humanity for this opportunity to write this poem and to give me the chance to help those in need.
