What Home Is...
It was chalk fest, Saturday, scorching pavement,
no shade, with rainbow colours, lemonade, bucket hats,
roller skates, hoses splashing, chalk scratching,
One-upping and out-drawing,
Unicorns, butterfly wings, chalky scratches, and other things.
It was lakefront kite days on a field, in the heat, with pretzel bites, funnel cakes. Flying are taped up mistakes, dusty breezes, icy freezes, tails streaming, children screaming,
Souring vision, sky collision, tugs, hugs and other things.
It was tv on the couch, in the corner with caramel corn and fizzy water, blankets on, socks off, relaxing, talking or not no need, kicking and poking in the knees, laughing, sharing twisted dreams, hopes, wishes and other things.
It's days and nights of these memories, that flat out refuse to leave, that remind me of safety, big moments, that are wrapped up in what used to be.
