What is home?
What is a house exactly? Google states: a building for human habitation. Home however means so much more to me! Home isn’t a building, it’s feeling a connection to everything around you.
My home makes me feel loved and safe; able to be my true self. It is filled with family game nights, backyard picnics, and tasty brunch on the weekends.
We often travel to my Mimsy’s house. It feels just like home. I don’t knock, I walk right in and I am always welcome. Mimsy is always ready to bake with me. I enjoy being part of their community by helping my grandpa volunteer at the annual Belgium Bowling Tournament. It brings people together and is a guaranteed good time.
From there, down a dirt road, we reach my dad’s childhood home. I feel at home enjoying their beautiful acreage. We love to quad, ski, and enjoy nature. Grandma always has the best snacks at the ready, the smell is delightful. My cousins’ presence always makes me feel more at home. I love to see them smile as we laugh together.
Within my community I love to spend time at the library. I can use my imagination to get lost in the stacks. At the dance studio I learn tap and jazz dances with friends. I enjoy meeting with my drama club to put together our spring performance, I treasure working together toward a common goal.
My home province has beautiful camping scenery. Everyday is a new adventure, capped with s’mores and lively conversations. Sounds of waves lapping, catching fish and kayaking through a scenic glass sunset are calming to my soul.
Home can expand beyond any boundaries, it can be anywhere. If you feel confident, embraced, protected and joyous you are at home!
