Home - A place of comfort, safety and memories

Home can be different things to different people. To me, home is a place of safety, comfort and memories. It’s essential to the development of my mind and body. My home is a bustling place with a large family of 6 and regular visits from extended family. I feel safe as I'm surrounded by the people I trust. At home, I have a sense of belonging and familiarity, because I know where everything is. In contrast, when I am in an unfamiliar place or new environment, I feel a little unsettled. My home also provides comfort. There are personal touches that you wouldn't find at other places, such as a favourite stuffed toy, a distinct scent, or a cherished gift. These small things make each home unique. Even if I am troubled, at home I feel comfortable enough to open and share my worries. There’s also a sense of privacy knowing that only you and your family members are there. So many memories were made at home. Some items at home remind me of special times I’ve spent with my siblings. I‘ve learnt so much from them, such as when I was introduced to origami by my older sister. The memories at home are great to look back on when I’m feeling sad or discouraged. One of my most memorable moments was when me and my sisters stayed up late with my mom to make some last-minute cake pops for my younger sister’s 8th birthday. They were a complete failure, but it was hilarious and an unforgettable experience. Home isn't just a building, it's also a place where life-long bonds are made. Even if you've moved, any building can become a warm and welcoming home. You might need a house to survive, but you need a home to live.
