What Home Means To Me
People say home is where the heart is
But it is so much more
Its where good and bad feelings part
Where even after our worst days we can restart
We could have shouted, we could have screamed
But we can be redeemed
In the arms of my daddy's warm embrace
And if my mommy wipes wet tears from my face
All unhappiness drifts away
In my home I am here to stay
And here I feel okay
I can be myself
I can laugh, I can shed tears
I can let go of my fears
Home is where I dream each night
About Wonderland, Oz, galaxies far, far away
But the real dream starts when I wake up
Home is where my family decorates the Christmas tree
Our eyes glimmer with merriment
Like the sparkling ornaments in the light
Shining so bright like our smiles
In my home I can smell mouth watering scents
Souvlaki, garlic bread
When I taste my parents cooking
Every bone in my body will untense
Home is not just wood and concrete
It is not just cabinets and drawers
Home is not home because of the floors
Home holds my prayers of thanks, of joy, of love
I send to my family above
That I miss dearly
Even though I miss them
My home holds me tight
Like a stem securing a blossoming flower to the ground
At home I am found
But in my head
I know that home is so much more
Home is my family's core
Home is more than a house
It is my kind heart, my full mind, my soul
I hope many more get a home
So they don't have to be alone
