Home is...

Home is happiness. Home is comforting. It is a place to relax, to talk, to appreciate. Home is family, it is the people I know who love me and always want me to succeed. Having a loving home is something to be grateful for. Not everyone has a home or even a place to feel safe, and that needs to change. A good home is built on a solid foundation. The stronger the foundation, the more love you feel. I love my together time with my family. In Newfoundland and Labrador generations of people left their homes for months at a time to fish. Coming home was often short, but home always drew people back. Even when times were tough in Newfoundland and Labrador, families were large, and always close. People think of toutons cooking, and maple syrup. Mmm mmm, delicious. One of my special memories is when my family came over for turkey dinner on Christmas day and our Kerry Blue Terrier, named Vanna no less, knocked over the turkey. In a time when people could have been mad, everyone laughed. It was hilarious. Those memories are special, they help make a house a home. Everyone in your home is important right down to the goldfish and the crested gecko. Even when we play ping pong, or dribble a ball, or shoot a puck, or play a game, deal some cards, it is fun. I might never beat my dad at ping pong (his day is coming) but I still have fun. I laugh when he gets on the microphone and says he is the new heavyweight champion. It is those memories that matter. When my dad tickles me in the morning to get me up, when my mom makes breakfast, when I argue with my brother for the remote at Nana G’s house, that is my family, and that is my home. Every person needs a home. Homes can come in all shapes and sizes. Nothing needs to be the same, but having a strong foundation is what matters. It should not matter how much money you have, everyone should be happy.
