Home Is Not House
Thanks to Habitat for Humanity, some lucky person will be given a home. But I would like to talk about what a home is. To me a home is family, atmosphere and safety. I think every person
deserves a home because home is a safe place.
I think home is family because there is no feeling like coming home from school or a long day at work and feeling your family's warm embrace or the feeling of your dog or cat overwhelmed to see you or even seeing your friends on the weekend. Just a hug or a smile from your family can light up your day.
My home's atmosphere is a warm cozy fireplace, the smell of bath and body works, the smell of hair products or a great smelling perfume. Or fresh made cinnamon buns or the smell of coming back from my dads house and smelling a freshly made meal. That’s what home smells like to me.
My home is safe and I get comfort knowing that I get to go home to it everyday. My bed gives me comfort because that's where I can have my sweet dreams about my family or the coolest destinations. Safety is also my family. On my mom’s side I'm Dutch and British and on my dads side I'm Ukrainian and Dutch so if you can imagine I have a lot of dutch food. Food is a comfort to me. At home I have three pets that cuddle and give me comfort that helps me to feel safe.
I hope that one special family will have a family home, with a great atmosphere and the feeling of safety in their new home. Habitat for Humanity is doing a great job giving homes to deserving families. I hope one can be built in our community.
