What Does Home Mean to Me?
To me, home is a place where you feel loved, safe, and cherished. Home is like a big, warm hug that you get every single day. Home is not a place. It is more like a life. It is where you can be yourself and be at ease.
A home and a house, to me, are two separate things. A house is a place you buy which feels as if it was a feat in your life but never feels any better than forgetting your coat on a cold day. A home is a loving, safe, protective place where it feels amazing to go back to and has too many words to describe. Home is also a strong emotion of happiness, positive energy, love and excitement. A home could include a family, lifestyle, friends, neighbours and love.
Where I live, it is always so much fun to play in the trees, feed the chickens and play with my dog. With my Chinese culture, we always love our family and love where we live. Love is home. Whenever I come home, I feel very relaxed and safe because home is not always a public space. It's a place where you just take your time and live in the moment.
In the summer, when my friend and I want to hang out, I always suggest we hang out at my house because I feel safer and more comfortable. Home feels like a feeling, if that makes sense! Since my family doesn't speak much English, I still find ways to spend time with them and speak to them. That is what I love to do at home. My home consists of eating cultural food and speaking my language.
Thank you, Habitat for Humanity, for this charity.
