The Faith

“Bedtime!” Mom’s gentle voice signaled the close of the day. “Bedtime story, please.” I asked eagerly. “Which one?” asked Mom. “You-know-what!” I grinned. “Alright.” she gently tucked me in and started. Once upon a time, on a very cold and frosty day, a pair of siblings were playing in their home, a cabin near the forest. A unique bird was spotted by the little sister, Grace. She dashed outside. The older sister, Icelyn, ran after. They kept chasing until they realized they were way too far and deep inside the forest. The endless trees were a maze without an exit. They failed to find the way. The sky grew darker, the wind blew wilder. The fearsome shadow of the branches almost caught them. The siblings huddled together and closed their eyes. “Could we ever go back?” asked Grace. “Hold that faith.” Responded Icelyn, calming her down. Suddenly, a fluff of white came upon the lost pair. When it approached, Icelyn noticed it was a snow-white fox with a patch of brown. The fox licked the girls and hopped away with glancing backs. Since the two didn’t follow, it returned. Icelyn thought it must be a hint. They followed. Broken logs, mud puddles, tangled vines were all around. They didn’t care much, just followed. Suddenly, the fox disappeared right where their home was. They rushed into the home, rushed into the arms of their parents. Past the shoulder, a picture caught Icelyn’s eye that a snow-white fox with a patch of brown sat behind her great-grandmother. This story was made up by my great-great-great-grandmother and passed on. The story itself may change, but the faith of not giving-up never changes, always supporting us." Home passes important things, a house, an antique, a necklace, sometimes a faith in a story.
