Canada is My Home

When I get off the bus the sun is slowly starting to set and rise somewhere else. My sinuses burn because of the fast change in temperature. The cold, crisp winter breeze hits my face, goosebumps fill my body, I can smell my mother cooking in the kitchen. Still, not sure what she is cooking, since my father is vegetarian, sometimes it can smell like chicken, but she is cooking string beans. As I am getting close to my house about to open the door I can hear Oceana, my rabbit, storm by and hop away into the bushy, mixed forest. I open the door… Before going up stairs as slow as a snail, I take off all my winter gear and set my gloves and boots on the standing dryers to make sure they’ll be crisp for the next morning. When I walk up my steep stairs, I can feel every muscle inside of my legs burning. It’s finally time for dinner, I could smell my mom’s broccoli rice. It’s basically rice and chopped up bits of crunchy, toasty, tart broccoli… mmm, my favorite! I get my plate, the smell of the fresh broccoli seasoned and then cooked flows through my nose. I ate fast since I wanted to go for a walk. I slipped on my boots, put my flashy pink jacket on, my hat was on my head, wiggled my head to make sure my pom-pom was secured and headed out for a walk. I walked for a bit… Though it was time to continue the journey, the moon was in the sky, soon bright, vibrant stars would be shown. Night time, my favorite part of living up north. I could hear, smell, taste, see and feel home.
