Safe and Happy
What a house means to me:
A house is a place with four walls and a roof, a house has furniture, and it is somewhere you can have shelter, somewhere you can cook and be comfortable.
What a home means to me:
A home is a safe, loving place you can go to be happy and safe, and you can be yourself.
It is a place where you can be with your family.
There are between 150,000 to 300,000 homeless people in Canada today.
Every single person deserves a loving home where they can feel safe and warm, but sadly not everyone has that. A lot of the time it is because the cost of housing is extremely high and so are food prices and other necessities.
So many homeless people pass away because of hypothermia, starvation, or other illnesses. Thankfully, Habitat for Humanity Canada is doing their best to build houses for the homeless and helping families to build a loving safe home. Since 1985 over 4,000 families now have a loving home.
One time me and my family were going to get food and we saw a homeless man standing on the sidewalk with a sign that said, “Homeless and hungry please help.” My mom pulled over and she told him that we would buy him a meal. He was incredibly happy that we were buying him food. After that day I realized that no matter what I will always help people when they are struggling, and I am always grateful that I have a loving and safe home to feel comfortable in.
I would like to formally thank Habitat for Humanity Canada for all the excellent work they do and that it is well appreciated.
