What a Home Means to Me

A house is just a structure with floors, walls, furniture, and a roof. But a home is much more than that. Home to me is a wonderful and safe place. One in eight Canadian households do not have an affordable, clean, safe place that they can call their home. Last year, or two years ago, I went with my church, to, I think, downtown Hamilton. We got blankets and food and gave them to homeless people. The whole time that I was there all I was thinking was how scary it must have been. I could not imagine being homeless. Being there made me realize how lucky I was to have a place that I could call my home, and how lucky I am to go home and have a nice warm meal waiting for me. Many people do not have that. So, when I found out about Habitat for Humanity, I was overjoyed. Habitat for Humanity Canada helps people and families that just need a decent, affordable, and safe place to live. They call this process ‘’A hand up not a handout.” Founded in 1985, Habitat for Humanity Is a non-profit organization working toward a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Since this organization was founded, over 4 309 people and families have accessed a safe and decent home. I would like to give a huge thanks to Habitat for Humanity for all they do. This organization may just build houses, but always remember, although a house is just a building with walls and a roof, many people need that house to build their home.
