Home’s, a place where I go to feel safe and accepted, a place that's sweet and full of laughter, the main ingredient to being truly loved. A place around my family, friends and community. This is what home means to me.
Home is the sound of laughter. When I’m hanging out with my friends and they tell the funniest jokes. When I’m being silly with my cousins but no one understands what we’re doing. Hanging out with my friends that I can truly be myself with. Doing a hilarious hairstyle on your best friend. When I’m goofing off with my sibling and laughter just sings throughout the house.
Home is the sense of sweetness. When my mom and I make fresh from the oven, soft, gooey chocolate chip cookies that just make you feel in heaven because of how delicious they are. The scent of the breakfast my friend and I cooked after pulling an all-nighter at a sleepover. Getting picked up from school and my grandfather gave me a bowl of his famous homemade chicken soup.
Home is the feeling of acceptance. Friends that I can be my true self around and not get questioned for it. Having a family that truly loves me. Having someone who cares about me. A community that will never leave me. When someone asks me to be my new friend. Having someone that lets me have an opinion.
Home is the knowledge of knowing when I’m safe. When my grandmother softly sings to me after a long day. Falling asleep knowing I’m protected around a community that will never harm you.
Home’s, a place where I belong, around people who belong with me. A place near and dear to my heart. That's what home means to me.
