Home: A Place to Grow

Home: A place to grow By Nathan Hammond. I walk in the door, where my family comes to greet me. When I’m sad, my family comes to comfort me. My family encourages me to do what I love. A home: A place of acceptance. A house is not a home, and a home is not a house. A home is where the heart is, and the heart is where the home is. You can't have a home without the love, you can’t have a home without attachment. A home: A place of emotion. The aroma of my mom's cooking fills the air, the smell of fresh cut grass after my dad mows the lawn, and the sweet aroma of my sister’s lavender diffuser. A home: A place of Scent A house has 4 walls and a roof, but a home is four loving family members ready to help you. A house has an oven, a place to cook, but a home has the oven being used to bake fresh, fluffy, chocolate chip cookies with your mom's secret cookie dough recipe. A home: Not a house. The fire crackles while we sit around it telling each other stories, and giggling at my dad’s corny jokes. Me, my sister, my mom, and my dad, we turned my house, into a loving, beautiful home. A home: A place to grow. The fireworks boom down by the river on Canada day, and my family and I are there to embrace the moment, the ball drops on New Year's and we’re all there to cheer in the new year. Home: A place of tradition Thank you Habitat for Humanity for giving kids the chance to help out those less fortunate. Without all y’all, so many people wouldn’t have the key to change their lives. A home: A place of opportunity
