The Meaning of Home

One day, a boy named Alex was going to his new school Park Side where the rich kids go and Alex’s family was struggling with money and barely getting past with rent. Alex, who was starting a new school, was in class when a bunch of rich kids showed up and started laughing at his ripped clothes. The group of rich kids came over to Alex and knocked his food over and said, “Pick it up, poor boy”. Alex came home crying and said, “Why do we have to be poor?” “Son, please ask them to come over,” his father said softly, “I'll do my best,” said Alex. The following day, Alex asked the group of rich kids to come over and show them something cool. The rich kids agreed. They went to his house and Alex came out and said, “Come in, and I will show you the meaning of home”. They went inside and Alex started to tell them the meaning of home. This is my dad. My dad's name is Chris. The rich kids were silent. Alex told them to follow him and show him his room. “This is my room where I sleep”. The rich kids were still quiet. “My dad and I sleep in the same room”. “I’m a Buddhist, I celebrate my religion every year and monks come over and bless us.” The rich children expressed their regret regarding their actions and let Alex stay at the school. Alex stayed quiet. “What do you do when you're not working?”, they asked. Alex replied, "When I have free time, I walk around and assist homeless people. I also volunteer to build houses. Then I help people study because I'm the smartest kid in school, and if you guys need help, I'm here for you because I know you're failing and can't play volleyball." By the end of the year, they were all friends and the rich kids win volleyball championship Thank you, habitat for humanity, for helping others who aren't so fortunate.
