Meaning of Home: We belong everywhere
"A house is built of walls and beams; A home is made of love and dreams." said Ralph Waldo Emerson, a poet from the 19th century. But I often ask myself, "What is a ‘Home’ for a pilot? What is a ‘Home’ for a nurse or a doctor? What is a ‘Home’ for our teachers?” For everyone, home means a different thing.
If you were to ask a pilot what home means to them, they would probably say it is where their family is. That's true, but they spend most of their time in the sky. Their home is between the clouds in a cockpit. If I think of it, it is not bad. There is a beautiful view all the time. Someone can describe a pilot’s home as a comfortable, happy, joyful and exciting shelter! What a precious, beautiful place it is!
A nurse's home is where she treats people with love for long hours. She spent a large part of her life taking care of patients, to heal from diseases. Talking and comforting them to still have hope. She knows them and their needs more than a patient's family member. She has seen people go and come regularly like we have people visiting us at our homes. If you ask her she can tell you exactly why she treats her care center like home. Same with a doctor, they imagine it the same way!
Our teachers spend most of their time at school teaching. The day starts with getting up every day just to teach us. The teachers put a lot of emotion and hard work into their everyday tasks. They make the four walls into a classroom. The classroom is home for us and the teachers. We never forgot the experience of our kindergarten or any other grade class. And the four walls of the class are full of learning something new and making mistakes. I know I make a lot of mistakes, but my teacher is always there for me.
What does home mean to me, though? I imagine it like an abstract painting waiting to be made. Every day I have so much running in my head of what I will do today at home. I call it a DREAM home where I have my loved ones. I can watch the screen and play on my PS5 without any time restriction. I do not have to clean every day. Just my close friends and family around with my favorite food, PIZZA served in every meal. This is surely not a picture-perfect home, but I love it.
Don’t you think that we all have many homes in one life? I think I have a lot of homes. My friend's house, my classroom, the long flights I take often to see my family in another country and my home. Just look at that, We belong everywhere. We all do! It is just where we are and what we love, that makes it HOME.
