My Search for "Home"

My Search for “Home” Qisheng Sun “Home is a shelter from storms — all sorts of storms” -J. Bennett I was born into a house, not a “Home”. I was born in Beijing and lived in an apartment. My parents were always afraid that I would get kidnapped, so I think you would understand how concerned they were when I got lost. Thankfully, a nice couple found me and brought me back. To top off all the worry, I would get terribly sick; having to get vaccines and medicine shots every week; always being on the rush to the emergency room. Eventually, this got so bad that we moved away. We immigrated to Minnisota, where we rented a three floor townhouse next to a lush park. I was three years old and started going to daycare; where I started making my first friends. I started going outside more often, getting used to the fresh air and lush nature. I made friends at the park down the street. My life resumed like this for six years. I found myself at “Home”. All this changed one day when my mom and dad decided to move. We thought it was unsafe to stay when Donald Trump took office because he was against immigrants like us. My parents didn’t want me to be subject to racism and discrimination. Now we live in Truro, Nova Scotia where I have found “Home” again. My new “Home” is full of love and happiness and I belong there. I felt welcomed at my new school, Truro Middle, made new friends and felt happy there. Victoria park felt like the old park I used to go to. We adopted a puppy named Buddy (who’s awesome). We feel safe and free, with everything we need. We had found “Home”! The End! :)
