What Does Home Mean to Me?

Home means to me a place where people build love, relationships, memories and maybe a family. It is also where you have a roof over your head, water, food, and a place to sleep. Many people don’t have all that because they have lost a job, had a fight with a family member or made bad decisions. It hurts me to see homeless people trying to get through the day. The worst part is people that are homeless suffer poor health, high stress, and are unhealthy, living in dangerous environments, and have an inability to control food intake, often resulting in frequent visits to emergency rooms and hospitalization. There are about 450,000-900,000 that are homeless in Canada today. The homeless should have a right to know that they are safe going to sleep every night. The other day I went to go and pick up my sibling and there were many tents set up. One set of tents were all these families working together to survive through the day. I was incredibly sad to see that. There is a charity that gives meals to the poor they line up at mealtimes and get food. The charity is called the demazenod door. My brother got a chance to go down there, and he realized how grateful he was not to be in that state and how grateful the homeless were to have a meal. It made him sad to realize that. It’s sad to see the tents, especially in wintertime because it is the coldest time of year. Every year we donate 20 dollars to the Good Shepherd and that makes me really happy to know that I have gotten another thing for a kid or adult. I love helping the homeless and others. That is what home means to me.
