Home
What makes a home? Home is a place to go when you don’t belong. Home makes you feel welcome. Home is where your favourite seat, pet and TV/movie calls your name. Home is relaxing. Home is when you smell your mom or dad making their famous meals. You might not have these things in your home. Some people don’t have a house. Some people have a tent or trailer, if they’re lucky to have that.
It’s amazing to have something that can sprout joy for families. That place is called Habitat for Humanity, an organization for people who don’t have a home or have lost it. My classmate lost her house from a fire that started on her roof. Luckily, she has a different house now and she is making it a home again. Other people lose their homes in different ways like another friend of mine. She has gone through loads of homes and apartments.
Sometimes people can’t afford a home like this woman I read about who has cancer. “I’m pulling my hair!” Blondy Moore exclaims. Blondy has been through three houses in her lifetime and the reason this home is special is that she wants to pass it on to her daughter. She has been renting out parts of her house in order to pay her mortgage. Blondy’s daughter is trying to help with the increasing bills in hopes to help her mother and eventually take over the house someday. When I hear about stories like this, it seems crazy how a home means so much to somebody. These stories make me feel happy that I have a home. A home is a home that you can make memories in.
