Meaning of Home
Whenever I hear the word home, I think of my dog barking whenever I walk in the door or smelling something amazing in the kitchen.
Home isn't just four walls holding up a roof, it’s a safe place to make hundreds of memories with friends and family. Home to me is my animals and my family. I have always had a strong relationship with animals, my dog Goose has been in our family for a year in a bit now. Every night, Goose will come in my room and sleep under the covers in my bed. Whenever I go for a sleepover or to a restaurant, I don’t see Goose lying under me begging for food, and I don’t see him jumping on my bed. One of my biggest memories with animals is when I was eight, I was told to take my old dog Reggie on a walk by myself! I had underestimated myself but then I had the courage to grab the leash and take him on my first walk by myself!
I feel like my animals and my family are my home, so wherever they go I feel safe and home. At home, I feel less overwhelmed than on the streets, with all the other smells and sounds. Sometimes I try to imagine how hard it would be without a home - no sitting by the fire telling old stories, drinking hot chocolate. That’s why I think the Habitat for Humanity is a great thing for people who can't afford a home, so they can make memories, and live lives they wouldn't be able to live without a home.
