Home’s embrace
To me, home is a place where I am accepted and can be myself.
It is a place where I am welcomed and loved in every way.
It feels like home when I come out of the rain into a warm embrace.
I can walk over to the fire and feel the heat that welcomes me into my home.
I fill my lungs with the comforting air that lets me know I am where I belong.
Home is my dog as he relishes in my soft pets and gently licks my cheek.
I can collapse on the couch and get lost in the words of my favourite book.
To me, home is my family’s reassuring words that tell me I am safe and loved.
They offer hugs and help me be the best me I can be.
When I am worried, they stroke my hair and tell me, “it’s going to be okay.”
At home, I know that even when things are hard, we will fix it together.
I sink into my soft mattress and feel the warmth of my blanket as I fall asleep.
To me, home is so much more than a house.
It’s family and the place where you are loved and heard.
People live in many different climates, places, and ways, but I hope that everybody knows what it feels like to be home.
I am so grateful to Habitat for Humanity for helping people find a place they can call home, and I hope that someday, everyone will have just that.
