What does Home mean to Me?
Home. I’ve had a lot of homes. I moved houses five times in total. From India to Rhode Island, to Connecticut, Chicago, India and a year ago, Canada. Having have moved so many times, I’ve had to get used to the new everything. New people, schools, places, culture. At first, the first time you get into the car taking you home from the airport, it feels like a whole new world. Personally, when I came to Canada for the first time after 2 years in India, it felt magical. However, it didn’t truly feel like home until I knew some kids and started school. One of the big differences between a house and a home is that a house is the place you live and sleep and eat. A home is the place where you feel loved and cared for. To quote Anwita, “If you live in a mansion but nobody loves you, that mansion’s just a house. But if you live on the streets with your family and you’re loved and cared for there, the streets your home.” I think no matter where you live, the place you feel loved and safe at, is home.
