Home
Home. Home to me is not just a place where you have a roof over your head and a warm place to sleep though that is great. It also doesn't have to be all big and fancy, it's also not the things in the house but the people there that really matter. I think home is an intangible feeling, and a location that makes you feel peace, and joy from loved ones or an environment where everyone knows they are welcome.
Family. Family does not have to be someone related to you or someone you live with. Family to me is someone who loves you and doesn't just help you with your problems but one who goes through them with you. I have a dad, a mom and a sister whom I love very much and I know they feel the same even though my sister and I argue sometimes! I tell my friends lots of things, all my secrets and the way I feel about things and they are very sympathetic but it's never the same as family.
Memories. Some of my favourite memories are in my home, like when I was playing outside in my yard with my friends and we played epic games or that time where I got slime all over my face but I was still laughing so hard. But sometimes you can't just take a photo with your phone to treasure a beautiful memory that you'll look back on one day and say, “Hey, I remember that!” So I just like to make an imaginary camera with my hands and pretend to take a picture and then I store it in my mind and treasure it for as long as I can.
Safety. Sometimes you've had a long day, it's raining out and you feel just exhausted and all you want to do is curl up into a ball on your bed and go to sleep and I'm lucky I get to even do that, get protected from weather not having to worry about my clothes getting wet but it's hard to think that some people don't have that they live out on the street and have to live in a cold dark place where you'll get rained on or get scared. Thank you Habitat for Humanity for hosting this writing contest so kids can write and help build homes for people in need.
