The Meaning of Home
“It takes hands to build a house, but it takes hearts to build a home”. Most people use those words interchangeably, but have you ever thought about the difference between House and home? For a house most people think of it as a building, but a home is much more than that (to me at least). A house is a generic place with all the necessities such as a kitchen, window, bedroom, bathroom, doors, tables, sinks, living rooms, couches, furniture, walls, a roof, plants, stairs, and a floor. But a home means much more then that, a home is a place where you feel comfortable, loved, where you are forgiven, cared for, where you have memories to cherish, time spent with loved ones, where you step out of your comfort zone, have fun together. When you go home, there are people to talk to, memories to make, fun to be had, and a place where you are protected. A home is a place where you feel like you belong. There are millions of houses, when you look down the street there are houses, houses, and more houses. When you look at your house, you see one thing, a home. Home means something different to everyone, whether it is a place to live, where your family is, but your home will follow you when you move somewhere else, be a place to comfort you. Just think how lucky you are to have a house, even better a home, so many people do not have either of those things. Those people do not have a place to sleep, a place to stay warm on a cold night. A house could be any house in an entire city, but there is only one home, yours.
