What makes a house a home?

What makes a house a home for me is what I see, hear, taste ,smell, and feel. If I were to touch home it would feel like warm hugs, a smooth kitchen table where I eat my snacks, that fluffy yellow pillow in the basement, the blue cushion on the window seat where I read, my cozy bed with my favorite sheets, and a fluffy dog. If I were to see home it would look like my soft, light blue walls, my dog bounding off the couch to greet me at the door, light pouring in from the patio doors, my backyard with the tall trees and the chairs at the back, my brother playing, a little yellow fishy, and a big garden and yard and the carpeted stairs leading to the second floor. If I were to smell home it would smell like roast chicken in the oven, waffles and bacon on special birthday breakfasts, paint when I do art with my brother, pizza once in a while on fridays, my parents coffee and tea, garden flowers in spring and summer, and my dog who smells pretty good for a dog. If I were to taste home it would taste like pancakes and roast chicken, like lemonade from the sales we have in the summer, like catching snowflakes on my tongue, like accidentally swallowing lake water on beach trips. If I were to hear home it would sound like me and my mom’s favorite radio station on friday nights, people laughing, my parents on the phone, my dog’s occasional barking, pots clanging and banging, and people just being happy. Though these are only things I notice in my home, what makes a house a home for any one is all the senses we experience all wrapped up in the place we call home. No matter where your home is or what it is made of, all the senses that you notice, enjoy, and love make a house a home. If you do not have a home right now, keep trying and get back on your feet, because everyone deserves a safe, happy place, a second chance, and a home of their own to grow up, be themselves, feel safe, feel happy, be okay, experience the five senses in ways that make them happy like the way I described for me, and most of all, have a chance to make a house a home. Because no matter where you are and who you are, you deserve a home. Everybody wants, needs, and deserves a home.
