I live in a house, where the walls that surround me keep me warm and safe Safe from the sun, wind, rain, and snow Home is where my family is, my Mama and Baba that have worked so hard to raise me My Mama cooks the most delicious Indian delicacies The warmth of her food spreads all over me My Baba works diligently so we can live in such a beautiful place Earning money so we can live lavishly, without having to worry Where my parents scold me when I do something wrong Where my mistakes are pointed out so I can become a better person Listening to cars zoom by The sweet laughter of children playing outside merrily in the summer The sound of neighbours shovelling their driveways in the frosty winter Listening to the geese honk late in the evening Hearing my mother’s pots and pans banging while she is making dinner Hearing my dad’s office calls as I wake up late during summer break Only at home The aroma of Mama’s cooking travels up my nose, taking me far away to a land of memories The tingling smell of the spices lingering in the kitchen The sweet smell of flowers as I step outside the door Only at home The soft petals of flowers that grow in the garden The wild wind blowing my hair Only at home Leaning against the window, I can watch the sky changing colours As the sun sets late in the summer, the pastel red, orange, yellow, and pink mesmerize me The sky gets darker and darker until it is midnight blue, only to let a little bit of light seep through at the break of dawn Only at home Home is where I am loved for whatever I do Where I am encouraged to do my best Where I can be myself It is the place where I am comfortable Where I can relax Where I can rest after a long day Home is where my worries fade Where new hope is born Where memories are remembered and made It is where I belong It is where I can embrace my culture Where I can believe Where the things I love most are And that would be my family It is where the love I feel reaches deep down into my heart At home, I feel as strong as a lion, as free as a bird, and proud like a peacock I am a mountain, holding all the love, memories, and peace inside of me Only at home
