Finding Home
Gracie was only nine years old when her parents died. She was one of the thirty people who survived the fiery plane crash. Since then she never had a home. Gracie was too afraid to turn herself into the orphanage; so she hid from people, scared to talk to anyone other than her parents. Gracie was smarter than any nine year old girl. Her first house was under a weeping willow tree, whose branches touched the ground. It was a shelter, but not a home. On rainy days it was not much help. Then she went to the forest hoping to find a big tree. In the forest she found, surprisingly, a lot of scrap wood. She made a perfect size shelter for herself and someone else, as if there was someone else. She stayed there for three weeks until a family was having a picnic. She had an instinct to dash away and never come back, but she fought it. She spied on them. She saw how happy they were together. There was one girl about Gracie's age with a mom and dad. Looking at them made her think about her family. The thought made her sad. A loud sniffle escaped out of her mouth. The young girl went to look at what made the sound. Gracie darted to her shelter. Somehow the girl followed Gracie to the shelter. Gracie actually started to talk to the girl about her life. Her name was Emily. She brought Gracie to her parents. Gracie got to learn about them. They fed her proper food which she gobbled up. They took her home. FINALLY! She felt at home with people she loved. She found out what living in a home really meant. Home is where family thrives together, and loves life!
