The Meaning of Home
THE MEANING OF HOME
By Rylan van der Spuy
HOME. The place where I live and love all year through.
A place where I can be me, and you can be you.
12 months a year and 365 days,
I count my blessings in so many ways.
January’s cold means skating on an outdoor rink,
Where I spend time with my brother, before a hot chocolate drink.
February is my birthday, my favorite time of year
Helping my mom make Oreo cheesecake, a memory I’ll always hold near.
March Break is the best, no school and vids all day
I relax in my room, no homework, just play.
April brings Easter blessings where families gather
Egg hunts and chocolate, nothing more I’d rather.
May; summer just around the corner
Bike tune ups by my dad are definitely in order.
June, the last day of school, it’s finally summer
September it’s all over, which is such a bummer.
July is the time I go bike riding with friends, and buy candy at the corner store
laughing and joking being kids, who could want anything more?
August days are filled by jumping on the trampoline in my yard,
walking to the bakery to buy my favorite pasta and paying with my bank card.
September is time to go back to school, I must get my supplies
Excited to see friends, but not for homework, I can’t tell lies.
October my dad decorates my home spooky and creepy
Trick or treating all night makes me tired and sleepy!
November is time to say goodbye to Fall
And cuddle up cozy on the couch to watch Sunday night football.
December is all about Christmas and New Year’s Eve
Praying for Christmas miracles, in those I believe.
A house in a community where I feel safe and that I belong
A place where I do not need to be afraid when I am wrong.
Pictures of me hang on the wall
From baby to now, hung up down the hall.
It reminds me I am special and loved so much
Tucked into bed each night by my parents’ gentle touch.
Home is where life happens, and I am so blessed
To call my house home, which to me is the best.
