The Meaning of Home
What is the meaning of Home?
Home is my house. Returning after a long day at school to all of the things that are familiar to me. A shelter against blowing winds, cool rain, blazing heat and frigid Canadian winters. The love that my parents put into it when they built it combined with the memories that have been instilled in it by us since then.
Home is family. The safety of my loved ones during a big storm. Arguing with my older sister but knowing that no matter what she will always be there for me. My mom who can always cheer me up if I am feeling down. My crazy little sister who always makes me laugh. My dad who teaches me how to work hard. Their simple imperfections that make them perfect to me.
Home is a feeling. The feeling of comfort. Belonging. Love. Trust. Crawling into my warm bed after spending the day tobogganing in the cold crisp winter air with my family. Cuddling under a soft blanket as we watch a movie. Talking and laughing over a homemade meal. Winding down with a good book in my hands.
I am lucky that I can call so many things home when I know that there are people who are not as fortunate. That is why it is so important that people and organizations like Habitat for Humanity are helping those in need so maybe they can have a sense of home too.
